An Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a federally mandated group of individuals responsible for reviewing and monitoring medical research involving human subjects resulting from unethical practices during the Tuskegee Syphilis Study in 1972 (Dutka, P., & Astroth, K.S., 2022). The IRB weighs the risks against the benefits of participants of a research project involving human participants and evaluates the importance of the knowledge obtained from completing the project. Submission to the IRB may yield four possible review outcomes such as: disapproved, tabled, and approved, with changes or approved as submitted (American Psychological Association [APA], 2022).
It is essential to submit the project proposal to the IRB for review to ensure that the ethical obligation and federal mandate is met. If the approved proposal is approved, any changes/amendments need to be submitted to IRB. In addition, as the DNP investigator, monitoring and tracking requirements are required to be reported to the IRB during and after the project is completed.

(This is a sample of how to write a crosspost)

Maria, I enjoyed reading your post this week. Institutional Review Boards are also called ethics committees and are locally managed committees that are given the responsibility to assess proposals for research that have human participation included in the studies (Hall & Roussel, 2017). Monitoring after the project is initiated, even after the project is complete, is vital for the DNP-prepared nurse to do to ensure the best care is being provided and no modifications need to be made as healthcare continues to transform. Overall, great post.
