After reading Brownmiller’s essay, “Let’s put pornography back in the closet”, I was able to find how Brownmiller is against pornography and how she beliefs
pornography should not be protected by the first amendment. Brownmiller stated that from her belief, pornography should be removed because it is critical to
women. Pornography is being used to hurt women’s reputation. She believes that pornography is degrading to women and very aggressive. As a feminist, she
thinks women are being targeted as objects. She wants pornography to stay away from the public. She is referring contemporary community standards to
minorities and majorities. I believe minorities have no power to make any decision over majorities. It can be argued that because standards vary from one
community to another, the rights of a minority to the whims of a majority. But at the same time, people have different thoughts, backgrounds, opinions, etc.
This can cause a problem later in the future. It is true that pornography industry is very normalized and it is a big problem because a lot of women are
victims.
