; create a brief survey, administer it to 5 people, and evaluate your results. Read all of the instructions below before you begin. USE THE FORM THAT I UPLOADED WHEN YOU WRITE UP THE ASSIGNMENT. First, decide what question you want to ask. For this assignment you should measure people’s attitudes about something. Make it something that interests you, perhaps you want to know how a sample of people feel about the rapid growth of UCF, or what people are thinking about something having to do with politics, (if you’re on campus) how students feel about the UCF library, counseling center, food services, etc., or perhaps your coworkers’ attitudes about some work-related issue or policy – the options are endless! Before you go any further, you must obey the following rules: 1) Use good judgment in selecting your topic! Stay away from topics that people might find offensive, or anything that might be inappropriate. If you have any doubt whatsoever, ask me before you begin. I’d much rather review your topic before you start than have anyone do something inappropriate. 2) No children. For this lab, you cannot use children as participants. Your participants must be at least 18 years of age. As you should know from the ethics material at the beginning of this class, children are a “special population” and there are special rules that must be followed in doing any research with children. 3) No coercion or compensation for participation. Your participants must voluntarily agree to participate, and you cannot compensate them in any way. In other words, you can’t force people and you can’t pay them. You only need 5 participants, and you will only have 5 questions, so I’m sure you can get this done without compensation or coercion. You can use roommates, family​‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍​ members, classmates, anyone who is 18 or older. After you identify your topic, you must write 5 questions, and only 5 questions. Decide how to administer the survey. Your options are internet (via your Facebook page or email it to people); telephone; personal administration to a group or individuals (that is, you hand them a questionnaire, you don’t have to interview them. If you are bold, you might hand it to a group of strangers, if you are less bold to a group of friends.) Who will your sample be? Will you use random sampling, quota sampling or convenience sampling? Describe your sampling procedure. What sort of questions will you ask? You may select from a rating scale, graphic rating scale, semantic differential scale, nonverbal scale. For this assignment ask closed ended questions. How will you label your response alternatives? You must have at least four response alternatives Use suggestions in the text and Webcourses content for writing good questions. You will be graded on the quality of the questions for being well written and providing useful information related to your question/topic/interest Administer the survey to 5 people. Compile your results, that is how many people provided each of the different response options to each question. What are the overall results (e.g., averages or most common responses to each question)? Based on those results, what can you conclude about the attitudes of your sample? Based on your experience, how could you improve your survey, what would you do differently? For example, operationalized some term in a different way, reworded a question, asked more questions, omitted a question, had more or fewer response options, administered the questionnaire to a different sample, found that your topic was unclear and which you had worded it differentl​‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍​y, etc.
