Counter Storytelling using Critical Race Theory

According to Delgado (CRT chapter), counter storytelling is “a kind of counter-reality created / experienced by out-groups subordinate to those atop the racial and gender hierarchy. Counter stories, often written from a position that lacks power”, challenge tales of privilege while also strengthening the cultural survival of others living in our hybridized society. These stories (or narratives) are grounded in the experiences and knowledge of people of color and can often be used to challenge racism, sexism and classism in our society.

After reading the article, create your own counter-story. It can be about your family or even about what you witness walking around campus. Be creative, yet refer to class terms and concepts.

You can create any type of counter- storytelling:
1. Personal stories or narratives
2. Other people’s stories or narratives
3. Composite stories or narrative

Font 12
Standard margins
MLA/ APA format required
Citations required
Minimum of 2-3 pages (excluding title page and list of references) but you can exceed page number if necessary
