BLOG Criteria & Grading Rubric for Blog Posts

Criteria for writing a great blog post:
It has a title that conveys the main point or argument.
Most if not all of the post is oriented around making and defending the main point.
It convinces the reader to care about the main point. It spells out why the main point matters.
It has a strong first sentence that hooks the reader in, and lays the foundation for the main point.
It is free of jargon and unnecessary acronyms.
It avoids clichés. It uses short, punchy sentences
It has a few hyperlinks that direct the reader to key sources referenced.
It uses quotations sparingly.
Is there one main argument to the post? Is it clear and succinct? Is it falsifiable? Is it obvious?
Is the post oriented around defending the argument?
Does the author hyperlink to sources of evidence?
Does the author engage with the readings from class? Does the author cite these sources using
hyperlinks or footnotes/endnotes that outline the author and title of the piece, the outlet in which
it was published, and the date in which it was published?
Is the post easy to follow? Does it have a structure that follows the logic of the argument? Does it
pose the question and argument in the first paragraph, and reach a conclusion in the last paragraph?
