Astronomy Ranking Task:
The Seasons
Exercise #1
A. Ranking Instructions: Below is the Earth-Sun distance ranking from the greatest to the least based on seasons for an individual in the Northern Hemisphere.
Ranking Order: Please rank horizontally from left to right as indicated in the question. Do not change the given format.
Summer
Fall
Spring
Winter OK
Explanation: During Summer, the distance the Earth-Sun distance is the furthest, approximately 154 M Km. During Winter, the distance is the least in the Northern Hemisphere, about 154 M Km. (Sun et al., 2016). Incomplete. Explain ALL seasons.
B. Ranking Instructions: Below is the Earth-Sun distance ranking from the greatest to the least based on seasons for an individual in the Southern Hemisphere:
Winter
Spring
Fall
Summer OK.
Explanation: During Winter, the distance the Earth-Sun distance is the furthest, approximately 154 M Km. During Summer, the distance is the least in the Northern Hemisphere, about 154 M Km. Please do the same here.
Exercise #2
A. Ranking Instructions: Below is the illuminated area ranking on the paper from the largest to the smallest
Ranking Order:
Paper D
Paper B
Paper A
Paper C OK.
Explanation: With the increase in the tilt, the area lighted with the flashlight increases, becoming elongated gradually, pitting that the torches have the same illumination.NO. Explain in the order that you ranked, using the letters to support your explanation.
B. Ranking Instructions: Below is the brightness ranking of each illuminated area from the brightest to the dimmest.
Ranking Order:
Paper C
Paper A
Paper B
Paper D OK.
Explanation: As the tilt is increased, the area lighted by the flashlight increases, and the brightness decreases, considering that all torches have the same illumination. Please do the same here.
C. Ranking Instructions: Below is the temperature ranging from the coolest to the hottest of the illuminated areas.
Ranking Order:
Paper C You are saying that this is the coolest.
Paper A
Paper B
Paper D Backwards.
Explanation: Since the light beam is not focused in a single place, down the ranking, it spreads, causing a decrease in intensity; hence Paper C has the highest focus of the light, making it the hottest paper. Please do the same here.
Exercise #3
A. Ranking Instructions: Below is the ranking of the illuminated area from the largest to the smallest.
Ranking Order: OK to use =.
Area D
Area A and C
Area B
Explanation: The light at D will be illuminated in a large surface area as the rays are slanting. And A? C has the same size as they are both located at the same latitude. The rays at B are perpendicular, implying that the ray’s concentration will be smaller than other areas. Mostly OK.
B. Ranking Instructions: Below is the brightness ranging from the brightness to the dimmest.
Ranking Order:
Area D
Area A and C
Area B Backwards.
Explanation: The light at D will be illuminated in a large surface area as the rays are slanting. And C has the same size as they are both located at the same latitude. The rays at B are perpendicular, implying that the ray’s concentration will be smaller than other areas. This is not asking the same thing as the previous question, so you cannot use the same explanation here.
C. Ranking Instructions: Below is the temperature ranking of the areas from the coolest to the hottest.
Ranking Order:
Area B
Area A and B
Area D Backwards
Explanation: Area B has the smallest surface area exposed to light compared to Area D hence the coolest.No. This is incorrect. Also, please be sure to explain ALL letters to make a more complete answer, as I indicated before.
Exercise #4
A. Ranking of this location is impossible based on the rotational period since all the locations take the same time to make a complete rotation considering Earth takes 24 hrs. to complete one rotation. This is your answer. Please read the question carefully. implies that irrespective of the location, the time taken will be the same.
B. Ranking of the time each location spends on the light is impossible based on the rotational period since all the locations take the same time to make a complete rotation as it takes Earth 24 hrs. To complete one rotation. It implies that irrespective of the location, the time exposed to the Sun remains the same. No. Look at how the Earth is tilted in each case.
C. Ranking Instructions: Below is the temperature of the glass of water ranking based on the location from the hottest to the coldest.
Ranking Order:
Glasses at E and D
Glass at C
Glasses at A and F
Glass at B
Explanation: Glasses at E and D will have more time exposed to the Sun before completing their rotation. Explain what this means in terms of answering the question. While the glass at B will be exposed to the Sun for the shortest period before the end of 24 hrs. hence will be the coldest. Do not be afraid to use the = sign here since some letters will be equal.
