Unit 3 Assignment: Adding to a Conversation

In Unit 2, you responded to a single text by having a conversation with the author. In this Unit, you will interact with a variety of texts in order to take part in a larger conversation around a specific subject or issue. This time, you will focus on a topic that you find particularly important and interesting.

Once you choose your topic:

1. Imagine a potential audience that might want to hear about it.

2. Research the larger conversation around your topic and think about ways in which you could contribute to the dialogue.

3. Write an essay for a public audience, using research as the primary “authority” for the paper. However, remember that your experience and personal perspective are sources of authority as well.

For this assignment, you will be required to submit an essay AND an annotated bibliography.
