Last-Mile delivery is effectively when the distributor delivers the product directly to the customers door. Companies like Amazon have mastered this method of delivery and actually plan to take it step further by offering same day deliveries. Netflix was another company that utilized last mile delivery, by mailing the movies customers would rent directly to their home. The only thing is that such services require that the warehouses that store the goods be relatively close to the customer. This also forces the company to have many more warehouses than companies that rely on package delivery. Because they offer such a fast service, it also requires the warehouses to hold a high volume of inventory, to prevent back ordering and delays. This also increases transportation cost since it requires drivers at a moments notice in order to fulfill orders. This can make the overall cost of the last mile delivery pretty high, but with such a convenient services, there will be enough customer interaction to provide for the whole process. What are some other factors you found interesting about last mile delivery?
