OPTION ONE: Pick at least two of the main characters (Tomas, Tereza, Sabina, Franz) from Kundera’s novel The Unbearable Lightness of Being, and imagine
that either Kierkegaard, Camus, or Kurt Vonnegut are reading the novel (PICK only ONE). What would they have to say about the decisions the main
characters make and the way they live their lives? Would they approve or dissapprove? What kinds of advice might they give to the characters? Which of the
characters would they be most pleased with? Which one would be the most disappointing? Be sure to use examples from the novel to support your claims.
OPTION TWO: In the novel, Kundera plays with many themes. Among them, are the dichotomies of lightness/heaviness, lightness/darkness, soul/body. Pick
at least one of these dichotomies, provide a brief summary, and explain how Kundera weaves the theme into the novel. Some questions you could possibly
explore in the essay: How are the characters light? How are they heavy? Which ones relate more to the body? Which ones to the soul? Which characters are
attracted to lightness? Which ones to darkness? , etc
