Reflection as a tool for self-assessment is an integral part of the learning process. It is the process of critically reviewing the quality of one’s performance
against the course outcomes. For this assignment you will revisit the objectives listed in the syllabus. Select 3 or 4 objectives that you would like to connect
to your learning from class activities to. For example, for the “Learn key concepts and ways of thinking to support social studies investigations” objective, you
could relate this to the different frameworks that we learned for presented social studies instruction. Specifically, you could discuss the inquiry-based
learning method or activities that encouraged students to consider different perspectives.
Students will write a three-page reflective paper in which they review the assignments they completed in order to connect their learning to the course
outcomes.
1.) Elicit, listen to, notice and respond to students’ thinking, particularly how students process is written and
visual texts and think about social studies content
2.) Find, select, and work with social studies resources to create representations of social studies content
that reflect the integrity of the disciplines
3.) Use backward design to plan investigations (a lesson and a sequence of lessons) that give students
the opportunity to engage in inquiry and the support to develop their social studies thinking, reading,
and writing practices (including defining learning goals, instructional sequencing, assessment,
differentiation based on learners’ needs and background.
