Directions for typing the assessment section of your paper

This section of your paper needs to be at least 4 full pages, but do not exceed 6 pages. The main purposes are to 1) summarize and analyze your results/findings from the surveys about assessment knowledge, skills, and dispositions (about 1 page; use one well-developed paragraph for each area), 2) summarize the research results/findings from 5-8 previously published research studies on the instructional practice of assessment (about 2 pages), and 3) to tie your analysis of the survey results to the research articles you found by explaining how the research can improve your assessment practices (about 1 page).

Here is a template of the headings for this section of your paper. These should be in your paper as they appear below with the same wording and formatting. See page 48-49 in the APA manual.

Review of Related Literature about Assessment
Start your review of related literature here for this section. Add paragraphs as needed. At least two full pages. You need to use the published research studies you found online to provide a summary of the research results/findings. Only include information from sources that are published research studies that contain data collected from participants.
Think of the review of related literature section as a giant summary of supported and rejected hypotheses. Only write about the research findings/results of the studies. Do not include your interpretation, insight, assumptions, ect…these go in the next section of the paper below.
Using Research to Improve My Assessment Practices
Start your explanation here for this section about how the research can improve your assessment practices. Add paragraphs as needed. At least one full page.

Follow these formatting guidelines:
• Your paper should be double-spaced with 1-inch margins.
• Keep the text aligned to the left, not justified.
• Only use Times New Roman, 12-point font.
• Go to the paragraph settings and check the box that says don’t add spaces between paragraphs of the same style. See picture below.
• Only use primary sources that are research studies in this section of your paper (See APA manual for definition of primary sources).
• Do not use direct quotations in this section of the paper. In all places that you are tempted to use direct quotations, paraphrase the author’s words in your own words and cite the paraphrase at the end of the sentence. See the APA manual about plagiarism, direct quotations, and paraphrasing for more information.
• Have at least one citation per each study you paraphrase. Anytime you borrow another author’s idea or paraphrase their writing, you need to cite the source of the information. Chapter 8 in the APA manual provides directions for how to cite sources in the text of your paper.
• The APA manual provides directions for how to cite sources in the text of your paper, such as this made up example (Armor, 2021; Beatty & Alport, 2019; Johnson et al., 2020).
• The review of related literature should be written in past tense when you are discussing the findings from a published study. (“The authors found that…” or “This study showed…” Avoid changing tenses within a paragraph.
• Check your spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
• Make sure you write clearly and avoid awkwardly phrased sentences.
