Overview: Your second essay will be an analytical discussion of the topic you have chosen. By analytical discussion, it is expected that you will have more to
say about the topic you have chosen that what is in the sources you use. Do not, in other words, simply regurgitate what your sources say. Engage with your
sources! (Your first essay was to be you engaging with Graff’s ideas. This assignment requires the same engagement. You may agree with a point made, and
if so, should explain why it is a good point and / or expand on the point made. You may also disagree with something said in your sources. If you disagree,
that disagreement needs to be specific, and an alternative view offered.
Suggestions: The first suggestion for a second essay is to not make the same mistakes as were pointed out on your first one. Beyond that, the discussion
you offer should be a little more sophisticated than merely saying you agree and / or disagree without offering something in response, rebuttal, or expansion.
Of course, you should also ask questions if anything about this assignment is unclear and following the instructions for writing an essay would be a good
strategy as well.
Specifics: This essay needs to be at least four pages long—longer is fine—and must be comprised of at least five paragraphs.
You must use quotations from at least two sources. There should be a quotation in every body paragraph as these will be the core of each paragraph—what
your paragraph is analyzing.
