Recommendation Report (R.R.) Assignment Overview
Your Dean has read your memo and has asked you to provide detailed recommendations on
the ideas you suggested within your memo. First, identify the problem or opportunity; establish
criteria for responding to the problem or opportunity; determine your options; study each option
according to the criteria; draw conclusions about each option; formulate recommendations
based on the conclusions.
For the memo you all wrote late week, you were asked to research and find an issue that
negatively impacts student life at your educational institution. The task was to write a memo to
the Dean of your particular School or College, make them aware of the situation, and propose a
solution that would aid in eliminating or at least controlling this problem.
In the recommendation report, you will elaborate on what was proposed in the memo.
 Will your proposal require funds?
 Will there be a need to hire personnel?
 Where will the funds come from?
 How will your solution impact the students?
If your school is aware of the situation and has already taken steps to improve the situation,
explain convincingly why the current policies are ineffective. Research other Universities to see
how they handled a similar situation. Important: Use your findings as evidence to support your
claims. Cite your sources in APA format. Add attribution tags and parenthetical citations; also,
cite the sources in the references list.
Using the subject/topic you wrote your memo on, elaborate on the issue and provide a detailed
recommendation report.

Below is a list of issues that were suggested for the Memo assignment.
1. Sexual assaults on your college campus
2. Teenage pregnancy and young motherhood rates at P.V.
3. Mass shootings and gun control on your college campus
4. Increasing rate of suicide cases at PVAMU
5. Increasing student loan debts
6. Increased drug, alcohol, and controlled substance abuse at your institution
If for some reason, you did not complete the memo assignment, you can pick a topic of your
interest and complete this assignment by writing a memo now.
Note: For a detailed description, read the Recommendation Report assignment prompt
posted on the course homepage.
Rough Draft Requirements:
For the rough draft, you will follow all the original instructions posted in the Recommendation
Report assignment prompt (read that prompt first). Your rough draft should have all the
elements and parts required for the report. The only difference between the rough draft and the
final report will be that the final proposal has to be 6-8 pages in length, while your rough draft
should be at least 5-6 pages long.
The 5 to 6-page length requirement for the Recommendation Report rough draft, and later
the 6 to 8-page length required for the final draft will not include a copy of the revised
memo, Cover Page, Abstract, Table of Contents, and the reference list
NOTE: Counting of the pages will start past the Table of Contents, which will include:
Introduction, Methods, Results, Conclusions, and Recommendations.
All your claims should be supported with evidence. Cite your sources in APA format. Add
attribution tags and parenthetical citations; also, cite the sources in the references list.
Report Components
Your report should include the following ten components in the same order as explained below
1. Letter of Transmittal (Use a copy of the revised memo)
2. Cover Page (APA format)
3. Abstract (summary)
4. Table of Contents (page numbers should match the actual document)
5. Introduction
6. Methods
7. Results
8. Conclusions
9. Recommendations
10. Reference list (APA style)
Research Requirements
Support all your claims with evidence from reliable sources.
Recommendation Report Rough Draft

Note: For this assignment, you are required to use a minimum of 4
sources. Your sources can come from the university webpages and newsletters, and other
news channels and resources.
Only those sources that have actually been used within the report and cited within the text
should be listed in the reference list.
To gather the most current information on the issues you discuss in these reports, you will need
to do open research on different universities.
First, to show that the problem exists, do an open search to find news articles or reports
showing the seriousness of the problem, and thus creating the exigency. Then, cite these
reports and articles to show how bad the situation is.
Next, explore the PVAMU website and resources to see what is being done regarding the
situation you are discussing. Cite examples of what is currently being done and then explain
how these measures are not effective enough.
Make your recommendation to improve the situation. Do some more research and see what
other universities are doing to handle similar situations. If what they are doing is more effective,
use them as an example to support your claim/recommendation. Share multiple examples from
different universities. However, make sure these examples share something that is working
better than what PVAMU is already doing.
Look for numeric findings showing how bad the situation is. Or use them to compare how
different schools are facing and dealing with this issue.
If your recommendation will require monetary aid, explain where the funds will come from. Here
too, you can research and see how other schools are funding their practices. Use your findings
to support your claims.
Cite your sources. Add in-text parenthetical citations and attribution tags. Also, list the sources
in the references list (APA format).
You are required to use six sources for this assignment.
Citation
Cite your sources in APA style. Each source you list in the reference list should be used and
cited at least once in the report.
Use the following link for assistance on How to Cite Websites in APA format
Format
Your report should be typed in 12-point Arial and single-spaced. In addition, any tables and
figures should be captioned appropriately and included on a List of Illustrations at the bottom of
the Table of Contents.
Use full block method to format the report (everything should be flushed to the left).

Numbering your Document
When adding page number to your report, remember:
o The table of contents page does not contain an entry for itself.
o Front matter is numbered using Roman numerals (i, ii, and so on), often centered at the
bottom of the page.
o The title page of a report is not numbered, although it represents page i.
o The abstract is usually numbered ii.
o The table of contents is usually not numbered, although it represents page iii.
o The body of the report is numbered with Arabic numerals (1,2, and so on), typically in
the upper right corner of the page.
The items before the table of contents: the Cover Page, the Abstract (summary), and the Table
of Contents itself, will be numbered using Roman numerals (i, ii, iii, iv, v, etc.), and the items
followed by the table of contents will be numbered using Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.).
Using this format, you will number all the pages of your report.
You are not required to include an executive summary, as shown in the sample report. But, you
will still include an abstract (summary).
Submission:
Upload a copy of your rough draft to the assignment submission box. This will complete your
rough draft submission. However, this assignment will also go through the peer evaluation
process. For which, on Monday morning, the day this assignment is due, at 6:00 am, the
system will automatically generate a draft for you to evaluate. Using the provided peerevaluation sheet (posted on the course homepage), each member will evaluate the report they
have been assigned.
Be thorough when completing the peer evaluation. Provide detailed answers to the questions
within the peer evaluation form. Do not skip questions, and do not provide plain yes, no
answers. The more details you provide, the better your grade will be.
I, too, will be reviewing your drafts. However, I will mainly be looking for format, in-text citations,
references, and anything that overtly catches my eye, like contractions. The draft should meet
length requirement.
Turn in your assignments as Microsoft Word or RTF documents only. Any assignment that I
cannot open will be given a zero for not following instructions. If you do not have Word on your
computer, use the computers on campus. Do not submit your assignment a PDF.
All assignments submitted for this class should be a new creation. Do not submit any work
that you have already received credit for in this class or another class, this semester or any
previous semester, this institution, or another institution. Check the Turnitin Plagiarism report
before you make your final submission. Assignments showing a match of 40% or more will
not receive credit.
Completion Grade:
This is a completion grade assignment. The grade you receive on this assignment will not be a
true reflection of your work. It will only indicate that you met the minimum requirements. I
generally provide holistic feedback and some in-text comments on the drafts. Make sure you

open your drafts by accessing them through the gradebook and read all the feedback you
received.
While grading these drafts, my main focus is to see if you are moving in the right direction and
writing a well-supported researched piece. Please be mindful that I did not mark all
errors. Proofread your papers and take peer evaluation seriously.
Receiving a high grade, even a 100, on the rough draft does not mean that your work is
flawless and that you do not need to make any corrections/changes. The grade only
means that you have met the minimum requirements for the rough draft. Please follow all the
instructions within the assignment prompt, and use the sample assignment as your guide to
complete the assignment.
