Purpose:
Gather information about the whole classroom in order to discuss how each developmental domain, Social
Interaction, Cognitive Update (including language development), Physical Approach, and Emotional Approach
is highlighted and integrated with the classroom.
Directions:
Respond to the following prompts:
1. If we walked into the classroom what would we see in reference to each developmental domain? What
should be happening? What do we expect to see?
2. Define the Developmental Construct (Social and Cognitive).
3. Define the Developmental Domain being observed (Cognitive and Social). Use your sources to obtain this
information and include them in your discussion. Make sure you define each domain separately.
4. Explicit and Implicit Directions Given by the Teacher: Look at the unwritten rules… implicit behaviors… the
feel of the classroom. . Please include a description of the Developmental Domain in relationship to the whole
classroom. What does cognition (or Physical….etc. look like in this classroom/group, for example?
5. Details as to what is happening between and among the children.
6. Use the class as a whole to give detailed information in each of the domains discussed.
7. Conclusion: Personal comments, interpretation, reflection ….
8. You may organize your paper making sure to completely respond to each prompt and include your sources.
