For this final unit of the course, you will submit the third part of your draft of your final — the critique. This
should be one page and it should transition from the argument analysis to your opinion of the argument
analysis. Note that even though I say “opinion,” I do not want you to write this in the first person with “I
think.” It should still be in the third person. I’m putting up some resources for critique writing — keep in mind,
some sections might overlap in terms of — these essay instructions might also already have a summary
and analysis in them.
Critique
Submit a roughly one-page critique that moves from the analysis to whether or not you think the author did
a good job of arguing or making their point. Consider:
Was the writing good?
Did the author avoid logical fallacies?
Did you believe the author?
Were the author’s arguments well supported?
What were the most convincing arguments?
Descriptions of the best arguments.
You don’t have to get technical, because you probably fleshed this out in the argument analysis. This final
section is simply a summary of whether or not you feel the author was successful in making their point. Do
not write in the first person, even though this is “opinion.” You should still write in the third person, with
authority.
