1) What is the location of Stone Mountain (Georgia County, and proximity to major city)?
2) What is the main rock type or rock types that
make up Stone Mountain?
3) When did it form? (Give me million-year age
estimate and the corresponding geological period
when it formed).
4) How does the age of the Stone Mountain rock
compare with the age of the surrounding rock t
types? (Are the adjacent rocks the same age as
Stone Mountain, much older or much younger)?
5) What is global geologic/plate tectonic event that is
linked to formation of Stone Mountain?
6) Why does Stone Mountain stand so high above
the surrounding bedrock and when did that occur
(differential erosion, structural uplift, divine
intervention)?
