artworks from the textbook or another source. Write and DESCRIBE the work. As you compare and
contrast the paintings, consider the following questions: What is the artist trying to convey in his/her work?
What are the dominant colors? How do his/her color choices affect the mood of the piece? How does
he/she use complementary color schemes to heighten emotion and create meaning? How does the artist
use other compositional elements such as line, texture, shape, and light, etc. to create meaning and to
reinforce his or her color choices?
