ArcGIS Data Analysis Procedure
Step 1 Collect the data that will be used for the data analysis procedure.

Step 2 Input the acquired data into an Excel Workbook to make it a dataset.

Step 3 Familiarize yourself with the dataset.

Step 4 Make certain that location data is associated with each case in the dataset. Location data constitutes either addresses or coordinates (i.e., latitude and longitude). Be sure to separate the location data. For example, an address must be segmented into the following fields: ADDRESS, CITY, STATE, ZIP. Whereas coordinates must be placed in the following fields: LATITUDE, LONGITUDE.

Step 5 Save the dataset as a CSV (Comma Delimited) file after the dataset has been completed.

Step 6 Open the ArcGIS Online application.

Step 7 Click on the Map menu option once the application has been opened.

Step 8 Click on the Add button then select the Add Layer from File option.

Step 9 Click on the Choose File button to upload the dataset that you saved. .

Step 10 Choose the appropriate location features. Your options are Coordinates and Addresses or Places. Select the option that your dataset contains.

Step 11 Once the feature points appear in the map click on Location (Single Symbol). IMPORTANT NOTE: Follow the steps. Select the attribute that you want to appear in the map display first. Press the Done button that appears below the drawing options to complete the task.

Step 12 Click on the Add button once more. Select Search for Layers to find the appropriate analysis unit in the ArcGIS Online option. For example, if your work highlights neighborhoods, then you must choose a neighborhood analysis unit. Type in the unit in the Find search box then click Go. Be sure to press Add next to the appropriate layer to place it on the map.

Step 13 Reposition the layers so that your feature points appear on top of the analysis unit. Click on More options (three dots that appear to the right of the icons for the layer) for either layer then select Move up or Move down depending on the one you selected.

Step 14 Click on the Analysis button that appears next to the Basemap button.

Step 15 Choose Summarize Data then Aggregate Points. Your dataset must appear in the field labeled Choose layer containing points to aggregate into areas. Your analysis unit must appear in the field labeled Choose layer containing aggregation areas. Hit the Run Analysis button.

Step 16 A new aggregate layer will appear on the map. Turn off all previous layers by deselecting their check marks.

Step 17 Choose the Change Style icon for the new aggregate layer. Select the Counts and Amounts drawing style. Make necessary adjustments for visualization and style.
