additional two other sources from textbook, Major Problems in the History of American Medicine and Public Health.
Please submit an Annotated Bibliography for your Comparative Essay Project. An annotated bibliography is a list of resources with accompanying
summaries that demonstrate exploration of a particular topic of interest.
The format of the annotated bibliography should have the following…
1. The topic your paper addresses and thesis statement.
2. Written explanation of your research process including databases and search terms used in paragraph form.
3. Chicago/Turbian (in alphabetical order of author’s last name) with summaries of each of the FOUR articles presented.
Your annotated bibliography should contain at least FOUR articles from scholarly journals. Please do not include materials from magazines, newspapers, or
blogs.
Each annotation should be 100-150 words in length and be in your own words.
When writing summaries for the articles, please include the following details:
• Identify the author or author’s main claim(s). What questions do the author(s) ask about their subject?
• What were methods of research used and what were the results?
• What claim(s) does the author(s) make based on the results? Evaluate the evidence used to support the author(s) claims.
• Look through the lists of sources cited in either footnotes/references/or work cited. What kinds of documents do you see? Journal articles? Government
documents? Books? Letters? News stories? Other things? How do the types of sources (primary vs. secondary vs. research, etc) support the author(s)
argument?
• In the end, how convincing are the author(s) claims? Explain your answer. How could the author(s) have better supported their claims? What questions
remain unanswered? What do you want to know more about?
• How is the information presented in the article useful to you in writing your Comparative Essay Project?
Criteria for Annotated Bibliography:
• Thesis Statement: Thesis is stated clearly.
• Database and Search Terms: Database and Textbook Major Problems in the History of American Medicine and Public Health was used to conduct research.
Search terms were revised and refined to provide the most useful results. This paragraph describes the search terms used, why these were used and with
what degree of success.
• Annotations and Citations: Articles are appropriate to the thesis statement. There are at least four articles annotated. Citations are listed in alphabetical
order by author’s last name and are correct Chicago/Turbian format. Annotations provide all required information.
• Writing Ability: Annotated bibliography is free of grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors. When discussing articles, they are written about using
appropriate academic discourse.
