1029.1.3 : Analyzing Music
The learner analyzes how music shapes and is shaped by diverse cultures and perspectives.
INTRODUCTION
In this task, you will write an analysis of one artist from a specific genre. Choose one genre from the accepted genres provided in the attached “Task 3 List of Genres and Artists” and discuss one artist from the list that typifies that genre.
Note: The genre and artist you choose must be selected from the list in the supporting document.REQUIREMENTS
Your submission must be your original work. No more than a combined total of 30% of the submission and no more than a 10% match to any one individual source can be directly quoted or closely paraphrased from sources, even if cited correctly. The similarity report that is provided when you submit your task can be used as a guide.
You must use the rubric to direct the creation of your submission because it provides detailed criteria that will be used to evaluate your work. Each requirement below may be evaluated by more than one rubric aspect. The rubric aspect titles may contain hyperlinks to relevant portions of the course.
Tasks may not be submitted as cloud links, such as links to Google Docs, Google Slides, OneDrive, etc., unless specified in the task requirements. All other submissions must be file types that are uploaded and submitted as attachments (e.g., .docx, .pdf, .ppt).
A. Analyze your chosen genre from the attached “Task 3 List of Genres and Artists” by doing the following:
1. Describe the development of the genre.
2. Describe the key topics or stylistic characteristics of the genre.
3. Analyze how diverse cultures came together to influence the genre.
B. Analyze your chosen artist from the attached “Task 3 List of Genres and Artists” by doing the following:
1. Analyze how the artist interpreted or influenced the genre.
2. Analyze how the artist addresses key topics from their time, using specific examples of works.
C. When you use sources to support ideas and elements in a paper or project, provide acknowledgment of source information for any content that is quoted, paraphrased, or summarized. Acknowledgment of source information includes in-text citation noting specifically where in the submission the source is used and a corresponding reference, which includes the following points:
• author
• date
• title
• location of information (e.g., publisher, journal, website URL)
D. Demonstrate professional communication in the content and presentation of your submission.
