Short Papers (15% total — each paper is worth 5% of your overall grade)You are required to submit three
short papers (2-3 pages), one for each of the three books we are reading. The papers should be your
analysis and reflection on the readings, NOT a summary of the book. It should demonstrate your command
of the book and your understanding of the central arguments and implications of the book. Strong papers
will make connections to lectures and readings in thoughtful ways. These papers are informal in that
footnoting is not necessarily needed unless you use an outsidesource. However, since it is primarily your
analysis, I would advise against using other sources. An occasional use of an outside source used in an
interesting way is fine. Grading Rubric for short papers.

2.Is the paper analytical in nature and/or demonstrate a serious reflection of the book (40%)
3.Does the paper highlight the main arguments and conclusions of the book (20%)
4.Is the paper generally connected to the readings, lectures, and discussions of the class (20%)
