OVERVIEW

In this Assessment, you will complete an analysis of the concepts and learning outcomes from this

course in a presentation to the class based on one real healthcare organization. This is your opportunity

to use creativity, concept review/research, and critical thought process and apply to an established

healthcare organization. The overall goal of this assignment is to present an overview of the selected

organization based on the main components listed below.

The following healthcare systems will be used for this assessment. You will select one:

 Tenet Healthcare (for‐profit)

 Scripps Healthcare (non‐profit)

 Ascension Health (non‐profit)

 HCA Healthcare (for‐profit)

ASSSESSMENT COMPONENTS & MAIN ELEMENTS

Healthcare Organization Overview & Environment: This section will address an overview of the

organization selected, relevant healthcare basics to the organization, paying for healthcare services.

Concepts such as insurance impact, revenue & reimbursement, health reform challenges, value‐based

purchasing, and financial risk to providers.

Financial Management Concepts: This section will address concepts such as time value analysis and

financial risk and required return.

Capital Investment, Acquisition & Allocation: This section will address concepts such as debt financing,

equity financing, and lease financing and related concepts. Also include capital structure, capital

budgeting, and project risk analysis.

Financial Analysis, Reporting & Forecasting: This section will address Financial Condition Analysis and

Forecasting. Cover topics such as strategic planning, mission and values, forecasting (revenue, expense,

project), financial planning, KPI’s, financial statement analysis, capacity planning, and any other relevant

discussion. Sum this section up with the overall health of the organization. You must include the

selected companies annual or financial reports in your discussion in this section. Relevant current data is

required.

Healthcare Current Challenges & Technology: This section is open ended and can be anything you feel is

applicable or valuable to the analysis of the organizations you selected. Technology has impact in all

areas of healthcare finance.

PROJECT FORMAT AND GRADING

Select one of the noted healthcare organizations for study. This is not a research project, but be mindful

of using research for presentation, and noting that research used on one slide at the end.

a. Please use PowerPoint or other presentation software tools for this assignment.

b. You must have voice in your presentation. Do not show your face or use video in the

presentation.

c. Please be direct and concise with your wording

2. Prepare an overview of the organization you select so the viewer has a good understanding of

the company. Include key attributes such as number of entities, number of employees, revenue

base, structure, etc. You decide what the viewer needs here to understand the organization.

3. Present and analyze the main requirements/components of the selected organization in relation

to concepts from this course and external research. You may lay the presentation out in any

format that makes sense for your outcomes.

4. Discuss opportunities and challenges the organization faces. This will be the basis for your

professional recommendations.

5. There must be at least one slide/frame where you identify 2‐3 professional recommendations

and discuss in summary to wrap up the presentation

6. Ensure there is one slide at the end listing all research articles, journals, or other resources used

where applicable.

Observe the following:

 Be creative! Use graphics/charts/not just words to tell your story.

 Be concise. More words on a slide does not mean the audience is going to grasp the

information

 Be clear when you speak. Length is not as important as content. The point of the presentation

is to share an overview of the financial status of a healthcare organization from your point of

view.

 The presentation must be 10 minutes or less.

 Submit the presentation link or file on Blackboard.

 Name the file or link your last name, first initial, and ASSMNT2 (Adams_J_ASSMT2).

 Also submit your presentation in the discussion board for UNIT 14.

 Make sure to comment on your peer’s presentations for credit of UNIT 14 discussion board.
