Assessment Details and Instructions
Purpose:
This assessment focuses on the importance of evidence-based trauma informed care (TIC) in human service settings.
The purpose of the Evidence-based essay, TIC Checklist and Critical Reflection is to demonstrate knowledge of the scholarly evidence-based literature in the field regarding TIC in contemporary use; to create a checklist; to evaluate a service and to critically analyse both the process and key outcomes to inform best practice in the field.
Process:
Students will
1. Identify a setting (see below)
2. Review the scholarly literature regarding TIC best practice in the field
3. Investigate how TIC Checklists are used in the field
4. Develop and create an innovative and relevant TIC Checklist
5. Discuss how the checklist they have developed could be used in practice (based on research)
6. Critically reflect on the process and learning gained
The nominated settings are:
· Family Violence hotline
· Homeless shelter for older men
· Out of home care for youth aged 11 – 16 years
· Indigenous health service in rural setting

There are 3 parts of the assignment
A. Introduction to TIC and the use of TIC checklists (Evidence – based essay)

Discuss:
o Trauma informed care and the key principles
o TIC best practice in the field generally and specifically to the field you have chosen
o The importance of applying these principles and practices with the target population
o Review applied TIC Checklists – how are checklists implemented? How can organisations change practices based on the checklist?
o How the checklist could be implemented in a targeted organisation
(Around 600-800 words)

B. Develop a checklist
The checklist should include three key headings:
· TIC at the Organisational Level
· TIC at the Program Level
· TIC Implementation at the Staff Level
# Within each of these headings there should be around 10 items/not more than 15)

C. Critical Reflection

A critical reflection on what was learnt about TIC principles as a result of completing the checklist (around 500 words). Students should use literature to assist with reflecting.
· Critically reflect on (not describe) the process of development of the checklist. Reflect on what was learned about a trauma informed approach, potential experience of trauma in the chosen field, TIC checklists generally and specific to the target population
· Critical reflection demonstrates you have asked yourself questions and explored research literature that helps you explore the specific and personal reflections you made during the assessment
· The marking reader wants to hear your authentic voice that speaks of growth and insight.

APA 7th edition is the writing guidelines for the assignment (i.e., Size 12 font, Times New Roman, double lined spacing)
References are required for all aspects of this assignment. The checklist can be referenced underneath with the checklists used as a reference or guide noted.
