RESEARCH PAPER 1 COMPARATIVE HRM 25%
The research paper may be completed individually or in groups of two (2)
Topic:

“Compare and contrast HRM practices (*) in private companies (not public organizations) between one country from group A and one country from group B (see below). Discuss four factors such as culture, the legal environment, economic conditions, political environment, labor unions, demographics, etc. that can explain similarities and differences in HRM in the two countries selected”.
(Make sure you discuss comparable companies with respect to size and industrial sector). For example you cannot compare a manufacturing company with a hotel or, a big supermarket with a small family-owned groceries store).

Group A: Italy, Canada, Germany, Spain, Russia, Australia, France.
Group B: Thailand, Malaysia, Chile, Kenya, Turkey, Lebanon.

(*) HRM practices refers to how companies select, hire, train, remunerate, develop career, promote, motivate, and lead employees.

NOTES:
1 Use a minimum of six (6) academic sources (material from the textbook does NOT count as a source). Academic sources can be found in the databases available at the Library. It is also fine to use business publications.
2 Material found in business publications and written in a language other than English may be used after it has been translated by you.
3 Citation style: APA is preferable.
4 Make sure that you provide in-text citations of all sources used.
5 All sources used in text must be listed at the end of the paper.
6 Unreferenced or undated sources are NOT acceptable.
7 All sources used must be dated after 2016.
Structure of the paper: Executive summary- Introduction- Main body (with appropriate headings/sub-headings) – Conclusion(s)
Length of the paper 3000 words (+/-10%) regardless whether you work alone or with one more fellow student.
Submission: By e-mail as a Word Doc. Do NOT send PDF. For co-authored papers Cc: the co-author when the paper is submitted.
Finally note that as per syllabus:
“The marks for research papers 1 & 2 include a 5% component for presentation in class and answering questions from the floor.”
