Assessment: IDEA Pros/Cons Narrative Paper
Directions: Completion of this competency requires one written narrative paper. Students will discuss the positive and negative aspects of the implementation of 1980 Individuals with Disabilities Act or IDEA (formerly 1975 Education for All Handicapped Children Act) in a school setting in a 1000 – 1500 word paper using APA format. The paper will include sufficient content to demonstrate your understanding of how IDEA legislation impacted public education for persons with a disability. See below for sections of the paper. Information must be presented in a manner that is clear, concise and include an introduction and conclusion Citations from a minimum of 2 sources must be included to
support your opinion. Citations must be in AMA format. This assessment is evaluated with the IDEA Pros/Cons grading rubric.
The paper should address
1. A brief summary of the legislation
2. The positive (Pros) and negative (Cons) aspects of the implementation of the legislation (Pros)
3. A minimum of 2 barriers and possible solutions to improvement implementation of the legislation
