2- Discussion

In this class, we have covered several topics related to intercultural communication including conflict, intercultural communication competence and several others. For this discussion, I would like you to use your knowledge of intercultural communication to help you with the following topic.
You are at a social gathering that includes neighbors, friends, and family members. You hear two people starting to have a heated discussion. Chris believes that places of worship should be obligated to perform same-sex marriage ceremonies, while Terry is strongly opposed to forcing them to perform the ceremonies.
Your goal is not to agree or disagree with either perspective, but to try to help these two individuals understand each other’s point of view more deeply. That does not mean that these two individuals will ultimately agree with each other. But, they should have a clearer understanding of where each other is coming from at a deeper level than before they started their encounter.
For this discussion:
1. Provide three specific recommendations for Chris and Terry that will help them to more clearly see where each other is coming from.
2. For each recommendation, write two or three sentences. The first sentence should be a clear and specific recommendation. The next sentence(s) should explain how that recommendation will help Chris and Terry understand each other better.
3. You should cite material from the textbook and/or from other reliable sources for this discussion.
