Aurora is a 15-yr-old girl who lives at home with her dad and her 12-yr-old sister. Aurora’s dad has reached out for services upon upcoming discharge from an in-patient program due to suicidality. Her dad reports this is her 3rd hospitalization in 6 months. She often refuses to go to school and when she is there, she spends a lot of time in the school counselor or nurse’s office complaining of some ailment. Her frequent trips to the school counselor and nurse are causing her grades to drop. Dad reports having a “decent” relationship with her and doesn’t understand why his daughter is suicidal. Aurora has been diagnosed with ADHD and bipolar disorder. Upon speaking with Aurora, you learn about the high family conflict between parent and children and between siblings. It appears that dad has high expectations and no follow-through. Aurora reports feeling lonely, isolated, and unimportant within her family unit. She reports that her dad frequently disregards her feelings, tells her she’s manipulative, and “shuts her down”.

My Answer:
I am on the school counselor track, So as a future school counselor I will approach the situation from this angle.
1-I might need to collect few information about the student in order to create an intervention plan. I will Prepare staff, colleagues, and parents to recognize warning symptoms for suicidal behavior. I will refer her the student to the local community agencies.
2-The dad need to be informed the sigh of the suicidal thought.
3-I will make sure I have an effective protocol in place for Aurora. Acknowledge her feeling allow her to
express herself. Openly communication that will allow her feeling I will make sure she receive the proper help that she needs. And everyone around her safe.
4 find the necessary help can help Aurora situation improve because professional help is the best way to fully address the family concern or health problem.
