2- Assignment Paper

Every year, Hurun Report, a Shanghai-based luxury-publishing group, releases its
list China’s wealthiest people. With its intricate cross-referencing of information,
the list offers a few intriguing tidbits. For example, it shows some correlations
between wealth and birth signs in the Chinese zodiac (see the chart). Is this finding
just a coincidence or is it more to it? Conduct a “pilot” global study to establish
possible correlations between wealth, power, and prominence on the one hand and
the Zodiac birth sign (year, month), on the other. Chose one choice from several
options below.

Step 1. Use the Forbes list of the world’s billionaires and select the names the richest 100 (one
hundred people)

Then….
Step 2. Use the Chinese calendar http://www.chinesezodiac.com/
Use the Western calendar http://bit.ly/gma8Bm and turn to the web to find out when
these 100 billionaires were born and which zodiac year and zodiac sign they are.
Step 3. Display this information in a table (a sample)
Name Chinese year Zodiac sign
Step 4. Analyze your findings. Do you find any interesting tendencies referring to the year of
birth? Do you see any trends related to the Zodiac signs? (If you find no tendencies –that’s a
finding too!) Display your results in a chart or diagram like one by Hurun Report. Explain your
observations. Does the year of birth and month or birth matter in certain cultures and in a
person’s life, from your view? Write a summary of your research (300-500 words; if you need
more space, use as much of it as you need).
