English 131 Argument Essay Proposal
This needs to be typed and in MLA format.

1. Description/Justification for your topic

Write a short paragraph justifying why this paper is worth the reader’s time and interest. In many ways, this content can be used as an introduction.
Discuss the issue and why you feel this fits the criteria of an argument that shows something that is beneficial for people in general or a certain group. What are you fighting for with this essay? Why is it worth writing about for the rest of the semester?

2. Thesis statement
In a sentence, what is your argument? This can be guided by any research you have started. This does not have to be a call for action (persuasion) but needs to present a clear opinion and not simply a topic alone or a narrow point.
Focus on the ideas that something presents a problem with a solution (the thing for which you are making an argument that shows support for this idea, not against) for a group of people.

3. You need at least two credible sources at this point. One if not both should come from the HFC databases or other databases and each source should be at least a few pages in length. Your sources should also be timely, depending on the topic. A good rule of thumb is that if something is over 10 years old, it is probably not as relevant, especially considering we are dealing with timely topics.
A. Create a proper Work Cited entry for each selection.
B. Then, underneath each entry, write a few sentences summarizing the main idea of the source, a bit about the author’s integrity/expertise on the subject (a mini bio?), a key piece of information you plan to cite and why this source is effective and helpful to your paper.
Use pages 74-78, with a focus on “Evaluative Annotations” to create these two entries.
