Research Paper Information
Your Research Paper will consist of a 1,000 word double-spaced, typed paper with at least 4 major
research sources on a topic agreed upon between you and the instructor. You CANNOT use your
textbook, “.com” websites or Wikipedia as a source. Acceptable websites include “.org” and/or “.edu”
This paper is designed to reinforce the major learning outcomes for general art history concepts in this
course. Your paper will be graded for accuracy, mechanical correctness, and proper citation information.
Incomplete papers WILL receive partial credit. Your research paper should be done in MLA format and
saved in Microsoft Word. You will submit the final paper on or before the due date (see Content area for
dates) by uploading it to ‘Assignments’ folder in our online classroom. Late Papers will not be
accepted.
Grading Rubric for Research Paper
100-90 points – At least 1000 words in length, few to no spelling or punctuation mistakes, at least 3 or
more in-text citations per paragraph, correct MLA format of bibliography, correct alphabetical order of
bibliography, covers historical and artistic aspects of both parts of the chosen topic.
89-80 points – At least 900 words in length, few to no spelling or punctuation mistakes, at least 2 or more
in-text citations per paragraph, overall correctness of MLA formatting in bibliography, correct
alphabetical order of bibliography, general understanding of historical and artistic aspects of both parts of
chosen topic.
79-70 points – At least 800 words in length, few spelling errors and punctuation mistakes, at least 1 or
more in-text citations per paragraph, general correctness in MLA formatting for bibliography, general
attempt at correct alphabetical order of bibliographic sources, general understanding of the
historical/artistic concepts that the topics present.
69-60 points – At least 650 words in length, a number of spelling and punctuation mistakes, no in-text
citations, poor MLA formatting or no MLA formatting of bibliography, bibliography not in correct
alphabetical order, misunderstood concepts relating to the topics chosen.
59-0 points – 500 words or less in length, several spelling and punctuation mistakes, no in-text citations,
no MLA formatting in the bibliography and improper alphabetical order of bibliography, no
understanding of the art historical concepts of the topics chosen
