Poverty

For years, some critics have maintained that true poverty does not exist in the United States. They argue that even the poorest people in the United States “have it better” than people in other countries. According to the Copenhagen Declaration, absolute poverty is defined as “a condition characterized by severe deprivation of basic human needs, including food, safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, health, shelter, education and information. It depends not only on income but also on access to social services.” Do you agree or disagree with critics who argue that the United States does not have absolute poverty? Use a minimum of two scholarly articles or reputable polls found using the SocIndex. Provide data to support your position. What has been the impact of Covid-19 on the numbers of people in poverty?
