Title: Critical analysis of a key innovation (1350 – 1500 words)

 

Assignment task:

Choose a piece of technology that has been recently developed, but not in general mainstream use in classrooms. Critically analyse its usefulness in a classroom context. The innovation must be for English or maths (only 1).

 

Aims of the Module

This module aims to develop a critical understanding of the impact of new ideas and developments in primary education (with particular reference to English and mathematics) as part of a wider understanding of the processes of change and their impact on teachers and children. The module looks at a range of pedagogical initiatives and also examines the impact of technological changes on teaching and learning. It combines aspects of IT and Education Studies.

 

Intended Learning Outcomes.

On successful completion of the module, you will be able to:

  1. demonstrate a creative and constructively critical approach towards innovation;
  2. critically review the potential impact of new initiatives and recent developments in the teaching of primary English and mathematics;
  3. exercise judgement in choosing between key emerging technologies and analyse their potential impact on teaching and learning;
  4. critically evaluate political and pedagogical visions of classrooms/learning environments of the future;
