The purpose of this assignment is for student teams to critique a quantitative study design and findings published in a business journal. The assignment is designed to strengthen student skills in evaluating the strength of the evidence published in empirical journals and then make decisions on applying the evidence to a business problem, solution, or innovation opportunity. The assignment is to be conducted individually by each student to evaluated learning and competencies in research methods. The grading for the assignment is as follows: 1. Select a quantitative research study to evaluate and critique. The study must be published in a peer reviewed journal, studies published in magazines or popular media are not considered empirical studies and will not be acceptable for this assignment. Describe the rationale for selecting this study, what area of interest it focuses on, what research problem/solution/evidence it is seeking to focus on. Describe the relevance of this research to business leaders or scholars. (2 pages – 20 marks) 2. Evaluate the strength of the literature review, comment of the completeness and clarity of the review, identify areas of literature that were not included that could strengthen the literature review, comment on the clarity of the literature review and describe your opinion of the strength of the literature in supporting the importance and relevance of the research question. (30 marks – 3 pages) 3. Analyze the strength of the Design of the Study: (50 marks – 5 pages) a. examine the clarity of the research question, describe concepts being studied (5 marks) b. describe the relevance of the question to business leaders, (5 marks) c. describe the design of the study and examine the strength of this design relative to the purpose and intent of the study (5 marks) d. comment on whether other designs could be more relevant for the intended purpose of the study (5 marks) e. describe the generalizability of the study accounting for the representativeness of the study sample, the relevance of the sample to the target sample and the strength of the application to the broader population; (5 marks) f. analyze and describe the strength of the measurement and analysis conducted in the study; (5 marks) g. analyze the strength of the findings, identify strategies to strengthen the study design and analysis. (5 marks) h. Identify limitations of the study and describe next steps in this research that could advance the state of the science (5 marks) i. Describe sources of bias in the study (5 marks) j. Describe strength of both reliability and validity in the study analysis (5 marks)
