1. Conduct the reverse outline exercise:
For each of your paragraphs in your narrative, write down the main idea it is trying to convey on a separate piece of paper. Limit this text to a couple of words or a phrase. If a paragraph contains two distinct concepts, note them both (and consider breaking it into two or more paragraphs). Include your case studies in this exercise, what are you hoping the reader will get from your case study? Then review your list of concepts (reverse outline) as its own narrative and evaluate for logic and story line.
2. Placement of data tables and figures
Include in your outline a short note indicating the primary concepts conveyed in any data tables or figures you include. Review these concepts/highlights in the context of your overall narrative. Now consider the logic and story line. Is the placement of your figures and tables appropriate?
