HRMN 495 Assignments One, Two, and Three
Overview of link between SHRM Case Study and first three assignments for the course:
Page 4 of our SHRM Case Study reminds us that organizational design centers on the organization’s human resource needs to achieve the organization’s specific goal. Organizational design answers the question, “What is the best organizational structure?” and has two objectives:
• To facilitate the flow of information within the organization.
• To integrate organizational behavior across different parts of the organization so the behavior is coordinated. Organizational structure and its connection to strategy are core components of the organizational design process.
These two questions are the key focus areas of three of the assignments in the class. On page 6 of our SHRM Case Study, we learn that:
• It is the organizational design process—specifically the structuring process— that is the pivotal connector between the business of the organization (e.g., top-level leadership and organizational strategy and goals) and the other forms of HR support (e.g., workflow process design, selection, development and compensation). After gathering data about an organization, and assessing its strategy and mission, you will propose an effective structure for the organization, along with your rationale.
Regarding Organizational Structure:
In the course, we have three assignments which use the SHRM case study in which you work as a consultant to an organization to assess if the current organizational structure is the most effective one, given its mission and objectives. The three assignments include the following. In addition, there is a final assignment in the course unrelated to the case study and is used as a final assessment of your knowledge as a Human Resource Practitioner.
Assignment 1: Gather data about the organization using the interview protocol in the case study and present your findings in a paper (Phase 3 of the consulting organizations typical work tasks shown in the chart below)
Assignment 2: Assess the data collected, complete templates provided in the SHRM case study and make preliminary recommendations to change the organization’s structure in a paper (Phase 4 and 5 of the consulting organizations typical work tasks shown in the chart below)
Assignment 3: Design a presentation to the executive team of the organization with your consulting assessment, recommendations, and rationale for changing the organization’s structure. (Phase 6 of the consulting organizations typical work tasks shown in the chart below)
