Scenario
You have been very fortunate in winning a substantial amount of money on your National Lottery
ticket, which will enable you to fulfil your lifelong ambition of building your own four-bedroom,
detached house. However, your partner is not totally convinced that this is the best way in which the
money can be spent and has asked you to explain your ideas and outline proposals to an architect,
so that they can analyse and comment on your ideas.
Task
Produce a short report to explain your outline proposals to the architect. You should include
information about:
• your preferable location and the implications of climate and microclimate;
• ground conditions;
• foundations;
• the building system that you would prefer.
Include in your report at least two drawings to show the detail of the building system that you want
to use. These drawings can be drawn to scale or be neat sketches, but they should include
dimensions and notes. The drawings should be A4-size.
