During class we have been looking at the writing process and also the approaches we use to teach writing within the classroom, such as write aloud/modeled writing, shared writing, guided writing and interactive writing. With the introduction and constant development of digital technologies classroom lessons and activities have changed and many schools now have a BYOD (bring your own device) policy. As teachers we must keep abreast of the changes in curriculum and integrate digital technologies within the structured literacy program.

‘Computers are taking over’   Computers are taking over our daily lives. There are computers all around the world controlling everything from space travel and world communications to washing machines. The United Sates has the most computers-a whopping 164 million of them and in Australia we already have over 10.5 million computers. First, that early morning shower using water from a computer controlled water supply followed by a cup of tea using a computer packaged teabag and milk from a fully computerized 32 unit dairy with automatic feeding systems, fitted milk meters and automatic cup removers. This early morning activity is powered by electricity routed to the area by a computer controlled electricity grid fed from fully computerized interstate power stations. Next, a little early morning television with computer generated ads between the satellite news items while the show’s hosts check their laptops for the latest viewer emails. Then a quick internet search on the PC for the homework web quest before opening the computer monitored security door to get in the family car with its computer diagnostic tuning system, anti-lock braking and digital traction sensors. All of this before 08:00 digital time ready for another day at school. Today we have e-learning.
