C​‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍​hameleon Street deals with a number of issues that we see in Butler – the question of how and where violence and accusation are what force people to ‘give an account of oneself’ and if this is the only way in which we do so; how and where the pre-existing social structure shape our thinking about ourselves but also open up the possibility of deviating from, or rebelling against such norms; how the idea of ‘recognition’ as Hegel defines it might be rethought away from singular individuals to individuals and themselves, or individuals and collectives, etc; how the idea of oneself might be artificially limiting and not take into account the way that communal existence comes into being; and the ways in which what Foucault calls regimes of truth do or do not const​‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍​rict our ability to think about ourselves, to articulate ourselves.
