Questions to guide discussions
How are these issues constructed – by you (As a Social worker practitioner), by the young person, by dominant discourse, by others?
Awa comes to see you, she says she is really concerned and frightened. She was checking her Internet browsing history looking for an old link and found a number of searches leading to radical Muslim websites and YouTube speeches preaching anti-Western ideas.
Awa says she confronted Ahmed about it and he said that he was just looking at them because they are in the news and some of his friends were talking about them. While you are happy to believe that Ahmed is just curious, you also know that these sites tend to attract young people who are feeling socially excluded and a bit lost.
One thing Awa says she can’t understand about Ahmed’s interest in the sites is that it was people like this who took their father and brothers.

Please look for relevant theory which will help you identify relevant dominant discourse by you (As a social worker practitioner) by young person/ dominant discourses and by others.
** Remember to always engage in critical reflection – of the way the people and the issues are constructed, the responses, your values etc.
