3) For our analysis, we chose to use a T-test to examine the relationship between the 3 months prior to the implementation of the crime reduction program and the 3 months after its implementation to see if the program was effective in reducing violent and property crime. Our independent variable for this analysis was the crime reduction program, making it categorical. Our dependent variable was the crime rates of both property and violent crime, making it continuous. Thus, we needed to use either T-Test, ANOVA, or regression to test our analyses to see whether the change in crime rates were significant after the crime reduction program was implemented. Given that we were just comparing the pre-program implementation rates and the post-rates, having only two categories indicated we needed to utilize a T-test to analyze for a relationship between the two, and the significance of that relationship.
