Professional Development Plan (Details & Assessment) Checklist

This checklist is designed to assist you in developing the details of and assessment plan for your Professional Development Plan. The purpose of this section of your Professional Development Plan is to provide in-depth, detailed descriptions of each step in your plan as well as the plan for assessing the successfulness of the plan. The key is that anyone should be able to take this written plan and implement every step of the professional development.
Step Description Completed
1. Develop a draft of the introduction to your PDP. Develop a beginning draft of the introduction to your Professional Development Plan. You want to “get to the point” and “engage your reader” with the introduction. You will revisit the introduction after completing the rest of your plan.
2. Develop a draft of your Plans for getting “buy in” from your stakeholders. Consider who all are the “stakeholders” in your plan. How will you get them to “buy in” to the plan? You may have already addressed some of this in your Needs Assessment, so refer back to that for ideas, if they are applicable.
NOTE: Some people choose to combine Items #3, 4, 5 into one section; some choose to use a table, some choose to use a list, etc. The formatting is up to you, and you may combine or list separately the following three sections.
3. Develop a draft list of all of the steps in your plan/ Make a list of ALL steps (from the very beginning to the very end – which would be the assessment). Make sure to include all of the details (there is no detail that is too small to be included). You can add to this as you think of more things.
4. Develop a list of the Roles & Responsibilities for all Participants. Who all is involved in your plan? What are their roles or responsibilities? Be specific and detailed.
5. Develop the Proposed Timeline. What is the timeline for each aspect of your plan? Indicate when things should be completed and in what order.
6. Develop your proposed list of resources and budget. NOTE: There is no project that doesn’t have included resources. These resources may or may not have costs associated with them. If you need money to purchase items or resources, make sure to indicate the source of that money. If items are to be donated or provided by the school, indicate that, as well. Be very specific and detailed; look up the costs of your resources (you don’t want to guess).
7. Develop your Plan for Assessment. Develop appropriate plans for evaluating all aspects of the Professional Development Plan. How will you know if your plan worked? How will you know what aspects worked the best? Be specific with how you will assess each aspect. Include evaluation tools (surveys, rubrics, checklists, etc.) in an appendix if you indicate they will be used.
8. Revisit the entire plan for review and editing. Reread your entire plan. Does your introduction need to be changed now that you have the full plan developed? Do you have all of the steps included? Is the assessment included in your timeline? Etc.
9. Reread and Edit your Full Plan Read multiple times and edit your full plan. Make sure to check the following:
-Organization – have you used headings, page numbers, etc. to make it easy to follow?
-Spelling
-Grammar
-Punctuation
-APA formatting of in-text citations and reference list
-Formatting of the paper (double-spaced, 12 pt Times New Roman font, 1-inch margins, paragraph spacing appropriate)
8. Re-edit your paper (yes, again)! Walk away from your plan and come back to read and edit it again. Some helpful strategies can include:
-Read it aloud to yourself. You often will notice errors more easily if you hear it rather than just seeing it (we often see what we intend…not necessarily what is actually there).
-Have a peer read and edit your plan. Is there anything that they couldn’t do because there’s not enough information?
9. Submit the final Professional Development Plan – Details & Assessment The completed Development Plan is due by midnight (eastern time) at the end of Week 7.
