INTERNATIONAL TOURISM POLICY AND DEVELOPMENT
Scenario
You have applied for a new job role with a national tourism board.
You will be required to perform several tasks as part of the interview process.

Task 1 of 4 – Report (AC 1.1, 1.2 & 1.3) Instructions:
You have been asked to prepare a report for the interview panel members to show that you understand about the concepts and theories of public policy for tourism
Your report should:
• Explain the history of tourism policy.
• Use examples and critically evaluate the different approaches that can be taken to tourism policy.
• Using one destination as an example, list the institutions involved in tourism
development at the global, national and local scale and describe the multi-scalar
nature of today’s tourism policy.
Delivery and Submission:
• 1x Report – 750 words excluding TOC, diagrams, references and appendices

Task 2 of 4 – Presentation and Executive Summary (AC 2.1 & 2.2) Instructions:
You have been asked to prepare a presentation for the interview panel members to show that you understand the theories of international development.
Prepare a presentation as follows:
• Critically review theoretical approaches to understanding international development (e.g. modernisation and dependency)
• Select 4+ countries currently classified by the IMF as “Emerging Market and
Developing Economies” and using theoretical approaches to international
development analyse the 4+ countries.
• Based on your analysis, review the usefulness of the theoretical models.
Delivery and Submission:
• 1x Presentation and Executive Summary – 1000 words excluding TOC, references and appendices

Task 3 of 4 – Briefing Report (AC3.1, 3.2 & 3.3) Instructions:
For the final task, you are required to prepare a briefing report for the interview panel members to show that you understand the key relationships that impact on sustainable international tourism development With reference to 2 or more countries, explain the impacts (positive or negative) that tourism can have on destinations, in particular review the relationship between sustainable
development & tourism and how tourism can be used for developments goals.
Delivery and Submission:
• 1x Briefing Report – 750 words excluding TOC, references and appendices

Task 4 of 4 – Business Report (AC4.1 & 4.2) Instructions:
You have been shortlisted for the second interview stage
To test your abilities have been tasked to write a business report in which you would plan for tourism projects at an international level:
You must produce a report in which you:
1. Research development issues in an international context.
2. Develop plans for a tourism project that address those issues.
Delivery and Submission:
• 1x Business Report – 2000 words excluding TOC, references and appendices
Referencing:
• You should use and cite a range of academic and reliable sources.
• A comprehensive Harvard style reference list must be included at the end of the
work.

Evidence to be submitted:
• Report – 750 words
• Presentation and Executive Summary – 1000 words
• Briefing report – 750 words
• Business Report – 2000 words
