Paper details
Write an 8 to 10-page integrative paper (not counting cover page and references; one paper, three parts)
covering each of the books from the course and course readings (APA-style [7th ed], Times New Roman, 12 pt.
font, double-spaced, cover page, references, etc.). Focusing primarily on “Grief Counseling and Grief Therapy”
but integrating the other readings, write a “Best Practices” approach to grief counseling. In other words, spell
out for the reader how a mental health counselor should approach grief and grief counseling with clients.

• Part 1: Begin with an introduction that touches on how death, loss, and grief have touched your life (Firstperson acceptable, 2 pages).
• Part II: Describe a best practices approach for grief counseling based on course readings and other sources
(Not in the first person, 4-6 pages).
• Part III: Include a real or imagined case study that illustrates how your approach might look in practice (3-4
pages).
Questions to consider for the paper include the following: What important themes on death and grief will you
integrate? What do grief therapists need to attend to in themselves? What is your relationship with death and
grief? How did your family model grief? How do you tend to grieve? What skills or strategies are needed to
support the grief process? How must counselors confront death and grief in themselves?
