The critical reading response aims to assess your understanding of the course material and to
provide you the opportunity to connect course material to your interests and experience in
education. Additionally, the critical reading response also serves as a space to consider how you
will apply concepts, ideas, and theories to your practice as a future educator. You are required to
reference two readings from the course that have been read up until the assignment due date. The
first reading response is due week 2 and the second is due week 7 (due dates are listed above).
Do not submit a summary of the readings. Your grade will be negatively effected if you
submit a summary of the readings. Read the guiding questions and rubric for detail on what is
expected for your critical reading responses.
Guiding Questions
The guiding questions below are intended to serve as inspiration to get you started on your
critical response.
• What have you learned from the readings about what is needed to improve education in
in K-12 schools and beyond?
• What main points are you taking away from two of the readings about education in K-12
schools and beyond?
• How do the readings help you understand your own educational experiences or interests
in education?
• What is missing from the readings that would help you further develop as an educator?
Requirements
Each reading response is required to be:
• 2 pages (minimum and maximum)
• Typed and double-spaced
• 1 inch margins all around
• 12 point font
• APA formatting and citations.
• 2 course readings that were read leading up to that week must be cited (in-text and in the
references) and analyzed. For example, if you read 5 readings (3 in week 1 and 2 in week
2), you can choose any of the 2 readings you found most relevant or interesting to you.
Feel free to include more than 2 readings, if you would like.
• Critical responses will be submitted and due online by midnight of the due date.
