Overview: You will be required to write a short report on a single bacterial pathogen of interest using your
research skills to describe different aspects of the organism.
Content:
– Background information on a single bacterial species of interest (when it was discovered and who
discovered it)
– Describe the types of diseases the species can cause.
– Describe how it is diagnosed
– Explain how it is treated and how you prevent infection
– Include pathogenic aspects. Does it have toxins? Describe a mechanism in which the organism harms its
host.
– Include your own ideas for future research on this organism
Formatting Requirements:
– Must have introductive summary (1/2 page)
– Must not exceed 6 pages
– Must have at least 5 citations (at least 2 from primary research articles and three from secondary
research such as reviews)
– In text citations are required in the same format as lab report 1. You must also have a references page
(not counted towards page limit)
– 12 point text double spaced (Calibri, Arial, or Times New Roman)
– Must include one illustration that you generate whether that be a table or figure (can describe
characteristics or a mechanism by which it causes disease)
Preferred language style Simple (Easy vocabulary, simple grammar constructions)
