Requirements for the Process Analysis Essay
Essay Prompt:
Write a Process Analysis Essay about how something is done, how something works, or how something is
made. The essay should be either informative or directive (instructional) in nature. To help the student
narrow down a topic, they should consult the document titled “Prompts for the Process Analysis Essay”.
The student can select a prompt from the document, or they can produce their own. If the student finds
difficulty in this process, they need to consult the professor.
The Process Analysis Essay must have the following:
• A thesis statement(s) that is located at the end of the introductory paragraph.
• A minimum of three external sources found through research that contribute either facts, statistics, or
evidence to backing your topic. Failure to not provide three sources will result in a failing grade for the
assignment.
• A Works Cited Page (MLA Style)
• A minimum of three in-text citations (parenthetical references). These in-text citations must come from the
external sources. The student is urged to place more than three in-text citations into their essay.
If the student is having difficulty with their researching and finding sources that contribute to their essay, be
sure to research the history of the chosen topic or concept. This comes in handy when writing about topics
that are particularly opinionated or directive in nature. Remember, adding external sources and in-text
citations add depth and credibility to an essay, a significant focal point of this academic essay assignment.
Additional Instructions:
• The essay must be a minimum of two and half pages in length and must follow MLA formatting.
• The Works Cited Page should be the last page of your essay.
• The essay must be double-spaced using complete, clear, and coherent language. It must also be typed in
Times New Roman (Serif) with a font size of 12 (MLA format).
