Instruction:
Refer to the plan view of ABC Elementary School building below. Suppose your company won a new project—remodeling two classrooms in an old elementary school building—CR109 and 110. Your special concern is that the two classrooms have asbestos in the ceiling materials which have to be removed. In addition, the school will be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., i.e., students will be around in the building and on campus during the construction time, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Given the situation, perform the following tasks in this construction project safety plan.

1. OSHA Standard (20 points)
The OSHA standard that applies to construction is 29 CFR 1926. It is divided into subparts from A to Z. Among those subparts, the Subpart Z: Toxic and Hazardous Substances, includes the safety procedures for handling asbestos. 2. Safety Plan for Handling Asbestos (30 points)
As you know, removing asbestos requires special handling. First, briefly discuss how you would control construction tasks required to remove the ceiling materials containing asbestos to prevent air pollution. Second, identify tools and/or equipment, including PPE you may need in order to protect your workers as well as the school community members. Identify at least seven items and briefly explain each item below.

3. Safety Plan for Logistics (30 points)
You will have to remove a lot of construction and demolition (C&D) waste during the construction period. Develop a plan for moving C&D waste in and out. Also, create a route for moving C&D waste while ensuring safety for students, teachers, and staff members, and this route can be drawn on the map provided on Page 1, or draw by yourself and attach it as an appendix. If necessary, you may consider temporary blockage. In addition to descriptive discussion, illustrate your routing plan in the plan view above.

4. Emergency Action Plan (20 points)
It is expected that this construction project has an established and rehearsed plan of response to an emergency or crisis condition. A project specific Emergency Action Plan is prepared for communicating evacuation procedures, specific alarms, and assembly points, should an emergency evacuation become necessary because of severe weather, fire, hazardous chemical release, explosion or other emergencies that could cause harm. The implementation of a successful emergency response depends on thoughtful planning, training, and execution.
To protect your workers as well as the school community members, create a plan for evacuation, including but not limited to exit signs, signals/alarms, assembly area points, first aid kit locations, and a site plan drawing for this evacuation plan (this can be drawn on the map provided on Page 1, or draw by yourself and attach it as an appendix).
